FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You can download sample resources from this website for an initial look. If you want further samples, you can contact us and we’ll be happy to provide them. We are also available for an informal chat via email, phone or video call if you have any questions.
Primary PSHE content hasn’t changed that much in the last few years. Children will still need to learn about staying safe, relationships and health. We therefore expect only a few minor tweaks to the primary RSHE guidance, and are secure that we will already have these covered. We also work with our early adopter schools who assist us in identifying current issues that need to be taught in PSHE. If and when any updated RSHE guidance is released, you can be assured we will make any adaptations to the lesson plans as necessary. We have an ongoing update process, so this will be completed quickly.
We are confident that Chameleon Explore resources will stand the test of time, however, we recognise there may be a need to update resources due to changes in Government policy, or the emerging needs of children in this fast-paced world. You can be assured we will update lessons as required, and have an ongoing update process to ensure that when you download lesson materials these will be current.
Both! We recognise that every school is different with diverse needs. We have a recommended programme that some schools may want to follow. Some of our schools prefer to mix and match our lesson materials with other resources, or create their own programme using our content.
Chameleon Explore materials have been mapped to the detail you need to show that your programme is compliant and inspection ready. We have dedicated mapping documents you can include as part of your inspection evidence. We also cross-reference to the PSHE Association programme of study as we recognise many schools use this as the basis for their PSHE curriculum.
We do have an optional lesson on conception and childbirth, but schools are not compelled to use this if they have chosen not to include sex education in their curriculum. We also have an optional lesson about FGM, as this may be a safeguarding need in some settings.
Children aged between 5 and 7 are taught correct body terminology. This is for safeguarding purposes so there is no doubt they can use the correct words if they are being abused or harmed. We have lessons that cover a basic introduction to puberty for children aged 8-9, and also have some more in depth lessons for older children. Schools are free to use these as they see fit, and may choose to use all or some of these lessons.
We fundamentally agree that the best PSHE exists when there is an open and transparent relationship between schools and families. Parents and carers can see what is being taught, and be adequately prepared to answer any questions their child might ask at home. We would always advocate an in-person discussion with parents as a first step, via a meeting or information session, but also understand that some parents will want to look at lesson content at home. We have parent copies of our materials for this purpose. Our parent copies protect Chameleon Explore’s intellectual property, while still allowing parents to see the content of lesson plans.
We already have some SEND settings using our materials, and in our early adopter group who trialled the lesson plans. These schools are able to use the resources effectively because there is so much choice, and all the lesson slides are editable.
Yes. We had some international schools involved in our early adopter group who trialled the materials. Because there is so much choice and lesson slides can be edited, it was straightforward for these schools to teach the content they needed, and omit any content that was culturally sensitive.
Our purchasing agreement explicitly says the resources are only for use in your school. If you wish for more than one school to use Chameleon Explore, please get in touch. We can look at discounting if more than one school wishes to purchase.
We have tried to be fair with our pricing and base it on size of school. If you are very small school or wish to purchase Chameleon Explore for a group of schools, we can look at further discounts. Please get in touch.
You will need to download lessons from our website, but you don’t need a live internet connection to teach them. We felt it was important that schools have the facility to download and edit our lessons for their own unique circumstances.
Our team of experts ensure that lesson plans can be delivered by any teacher. Before launching Chameleon Explore, we worked with our early adopter schools to trial the resources with specialist and non-specialist teachers.
Our lessons about family diversity include references to a whole range of families, including those with two mums or dads. We want all children to feel validated, and not to be made to feel their family is strange. We have not included any lessons about gender questioning children (transgender). Some children may bring questions about LGBTQ+ into the classroom if they have heard things being discussed at home, seen things online, or on TV. Should this happen, the teacher notes in our lesson plans give guidance about how to answer these questions sensitively, and age-appropriately. None of our lesson plans include content about LGBTQ+ sex or sexual relationships.
